Network Management

The Network Management initiative covers different aspects of the optical networking, such as analysis and evaluation of protocols of the GMPLS suite and development of innovative protocols for path validation and error detection.

Working closely with our partner CISCO Systems Inc., we developed a new signaling protocol whose aim is to automate failure detection on optical networks, taking into account the phisical limitations peculiar to full-optical routers. This protocol helps automated circuit provisioning and opens new perspectives in intelligent fiber optics networks development.
Another area covered by this group is the development of embedded software components. With our partner, we developed a  set of features that provide integration between different top of the line networking equipments featuring IOS-XR or other embedded Hard Real Time Operating Systems.
The working draft “RSVP-TE based impairments collection mechanism” was submitted to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and is available here.
