2010 GIPR Award Best Ph.D. Thesis: Dr. Marco Anisetti
The Italian Group of Italian Researcher in Pattern Recognition (GIRPR) is a non-profit association of researchers, belonging to academic and research institutions as well as to industries, whose scientific interest is concerned with pattern recognition, computer vision, and image processing in a broad sense.
GIRPR was founded as a follow-up of GRAF (Group for Automatic Form Recognition), itself launched by different research groups in Cybernetics (Genoa, Naples, Pisa and Milan) each one of them led by physicists (A. Gamba, A. Borsellino, E.R. Caianiello, C. Gozzini, S. Ceccato), all of them interested in the artificial reproduction of the main features of living organisms: pattern recognition, learning, memorizing and retrieving, reproduction.
GIRPR was informally founded around the end of the nineteen seventies and came into official existence on February 21, 1983, when the first Constitution & Bylaws (C&B) was drafted.
The 2010 Award for the Best Ph.D. Thesis on Pattern recognition has been assigned to Dr. Marco Anisetti (SESAR Lab) for its valuable work in the field. The Award has been delivered during the 5th GIPR Annual Congress, held in Marina di Ascea (SA), 10-11 June 2010.
